Drug Safety Update

Drug Safety Update is the monthly electronic bulletin from the MHRA and Commission on Human Medicines.

The bulletin is essential reading for all healthcare professionals, bringing the very latest information and advice to support the safer use of medicines.

Interactive Drug Analysis Profiles (iDAPs)

iDAPs contain complete listings of all suspected adverse drug reactions which have been reported by healthcare professionals and patients to the MHRA, via the Yellow Card Scheme. Each iDAP lists all of the reactions reported by health professionals and patients for a particular medicine.

Medicines are listed alphabetically by the name of the active ingredient, not by the brand name. To find the name of the active substance in a medicine, look at the patient information leaflet that was supplied with it or the SmPC.

Black triangle scheme

New medicines and vaccines that are under additional monitoring have an inverted black triangle symbol (▼) displayed in their package leaflet and summary of product characteristic, together with a short sentence explaining what the triangle means – it does not mean the medicine is unsafe.

You should report all suspected ADRs for these products.
